Artist's Comments
Lookie lookie! It took me less longer than expected, nostly because I've been procrastinating on studying! and there wasn't too terribly much stuff left to do, or at least thus far. And I know, I'm sorry, again it is taken with a really old digi camera who has very little life left in him. Hopefully I shall some day have a better version for you all to look at, but for now, this will have to suffice.
I must say, this is my best marker piece to date, or so I think so, and probably the best lineart too! I guess it really does help to be inspired by a better artist, eh?
So anyways, please tell me what you think, especially if you see anything that ought to have a little more time spent on it. Also, I really want to know if I should leave the background plain as is, or do something to it. I did mess around a bit with the sat. in photoshop to make the background seem more parchement like, but I donno if I was all that successful. If anyone has some sorta tips on that sorta thing, it would be lovely!
Anyways, hope you like it, and I hope that you will leave comments and critiques!

See? I really have been working, ever so slowly, on it!
I'm terribly sorry for the bad quality of the jpg...it is a picture taken with a very very old digital camera in bad lighting, but I figured something is better than nothing, right?
At least you can see my progress, right? Well, sorta...it looks a lot better in real life...I'm really happy with how the hair is turning out, and I'll probably apply this new style to more pics, although it takes ten times as long, hahah!
Anyways, as I said beforehand, I'm trying to go for somewhat of a style by being all detailed and whatnot, but Mae is still my character! I hope you all like her, I'm sure you'll be seeing more of her, heheh!
Do you think this pic should have a background color, like a light blue or something? I will be doing some slight color changes to the wind as well as the clothes and skin tone. Pretty much the hair is the only thing that I think is completed yet, and I might still go back and work on it!
Anyways, I'd love any comments or critiques, especially I'd like some advise about whether I should do a background or not!

I love love love fanart, though! <3
I know this is going to sound weird, but her hair looks delicious! So silky and rich.
Hard to critique a piece that isn't finished, so I won't. You're not done with the shading yet so I can't really be of use right now. As for a background, though, I have to say that this has very nice balance and composition as-is. It's pleasing to the eye and doesn't leave me wanting as a viewer even with all of that blank space. I think it could benefit from the addition of a color in the background, but full-blown scenery would probably make the piece a bit too busy and subtract from the elegance of it.
I feel useless today. Yay. Anywho, beautiful piece so far and I look forward to the finished product!
well thank you! tehee, delicious! I guess thats a good way to put it, lol!
I'm thinking of just doing one color if it is necessary...possibly a light blue or a light green, but I donno...what do you think?
Is that normal white paper in person? Because you know, I actually like the off-white that the photograph gives to the paper... Combined with the lacy, intricate style, it makes the drawing appear to be on very old parchment, really cool! You might try something like, say, Eggshell or Blond Wood if you have it. And maybe softly blend in a yellow tone (perhaps Cream?) around the edges of the paper or so as to leave an "aura" around Mae. That might look really cool and would be both subtle yet pretty.
that would be rather nice! I ought to go buy Blond Wood, I've got Sand, Eggshell and Cream. Only problem is that her outfit is mainly made out of a mix of Cream and Jasmine, and her skin is mainly Eggshell and Sand. Do you think having such similar colors repeated in the background would detract from it, or do you think it'd be okay?
yeah, I'm thinking a solid color might work nicely...my only problem is that all the colors I can think of are in her outfit: cream, light blue, or light green. Do you think repeating those colors in the background would be bad?

Just an idea, of course.
I think this might benefit from a simple background, just sky and ground maybe.
